Public Speaking Is An OPPORTUNITY, Not A Challenge

Okay, so you don’t love public speaking. In fact, you may even DREAD it. The thought of giving a speech may send shivers down your spine and force you to break into a cold sweat. Sounds terrible for sure, but at least take comfort in the knowledge you’re not alone!

Recently, I came across a Washington Post article that indicated Americans’ NUMBER ONE fear is public speaking. That was more than heights, bugs, snakes and blood. Let that sink in for a moment. People would sooner stand atop a skyscraper or share a room with a snake, rather than give a speech.

But, if you’re reading this, there’s a pretty good chance that – in one form or another – you need to speak publicly from time to time. And, of course, if you have to do it, you might as well try and be great at it. Being a dynamic, confident public speaker can open so many doors for you.

So, here’s the deal, I can teach you a ton of ways to be a more compelling performer, but it all starts with your mental approach. Before we get to the technique part, you need to change the way you feel about the experience.

Instead of you having to give a speech, you GET to give a speech. Instead of your boss forcing you to go on TV, you’re the lucky one who gets to build your brand to an audience. Start framing your conversations about public speaking in this manner. Even if you don’t initially believe these things, if you say them enough, they’ll start to resonate. That positive self-talk, combined with the proper technique, will ultimately make you a rock star. And who doesn’t want to be a rock star?
